Circadian Rhythms: The destroyer or maker of your program

Session Type:
Performing exercise or nutrition at the wrong time can not only eliminate the benefits, but in some cases can take you backwards.
There is a reason shift work is an independent predictor of obesity, and why the majority of world records are set in the afternoon and early evening. There is also a reason you’re more likely to see demotivation and weight gain in winter, but motivation and weight loss in spring – the timing of your activity through the day and the year matter – and the differences between us is baked into our genes and through early development.
This session will take you through how you can use knowledge of circadian rhythms to get your clients performing better, more regulated in their mood, sleep better, enjoy it more and feel more like themselves (not to be underrated).

Learning Outcomes:
• Understand the basics principles of chronobiology
• Understand chronotypes and how individuals differ in their circadian rhythms and circannular rhythms
• Know what impacts circadian rhythm and how it influences outcomes from exercise
• Know what impacts circadian rhythm and how it influences outcomes from nutrition
• Understand chronotypes influence on cognitive function
• Be aware of cases where chronobiology has been used to optimise results
