Long COVID, chronic fatigue, and systemic burnout are no longer rare – they’re increasingly the norm. With post-viral and stress-related conditions now affecting a growing number of clients, exercise professionals need tools that go beyond motivation and traditional programming models.
This session will equip you to recognise post-exertional malaise (PEM), recalibrate intensity in real time, and shift from overload-based training to energy-aware programming. You’ll learn practical strategies for pacing, cellular recovery, and co-regulated coaching – especially relevant for clients navigating long COVID, autoimmune challenges, perimenopause, or invisible illness.
Learning Outcomes:
– Recognise signs of post-exertional malaise (PEM) and systemic dysregulation before they disrupt progress
– Distinguish between low fitness and low readiness, and adjust programming accordingly
– Apply training readiness decision trees to support recovery-first coaching
– Use cueing and language that support nervous system resilience and reduce stress responses
– Identify where traditional training models fall short—and how to upgrade them for complexity and individual variability
