Type 2 diabetes is rapidly rising in prevalence across the Western world – but how well do we really understand what causes it, how it progresses, and who is most at risk? This session provides a clear overview of the different types of diabetes, with a focus on Type 2. You’ll learn how insulin resistance develops, the key lifestyle and nutritional strategies to manage it, and the treatments currently available in Aotearoa, and beyond.
We’ll also explore the important connections between diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hormonal shifts – particularly during menopause and in conditions like PCOS. You will gain a better understanding of how to support clients at risk, as well as those already managing diabetes, with a special focus on female-specific considerations.
